Canon MG3550 – Error Codes

Error Code Description
Two flashes Machine is out of paper or paper does not feed.
Three flashes Paper jam.
Four flashes The cartridge is not installed properly.
Five flashes The cartridge is not installed properly.
Seven flashes The cartridge is not installed in the correct position.
Eight flashes Ink absorber is almost full.
Thirteen flashes The remaining ink level cannot be detected.
Fourteen flashes The cartridge cannot be recognised.
Fifteen flashes The cartridge cannot be recognised.
Sixteen flashes The ink has run out.

Canon MG3550 – Reset Ink Levels on the Cartridges

The Canon MG3550 cannot physically see inside the cartridges to find out how much ink is left. The copper contacts on the outside of the cartridge contain the ink level information. It is not possible to reset the ink levels to full. If you refill your cartridge, the printer will always show an empty cartridge message.

You can override the empty cartridge message by holding down the “stop / reset” button on the printer for around five seconds. The printer should continue printing, and use any of the remaining ink in the cartridge.

If the printer thinks that both cartridges are empty, you will receive a second error message, and you will need to hold the button for another five seconds.

If the circuitry on the cartridges is actually damaged this process will not work.

    I have a canon 3550 which has suddenly got a problem with print head alignment, I have tried the fixes in the manual but its not fixed – can you help ?

    • Is the printer forcing you to align the print head, or can you override the error message?

      The big problem the this printed machine: 1 its not funcion the wifi program . 2 use a lot ink ….my opinion I preference for printed machine HP.

    I still have problems with it. The yellow lamp for the black ink gives te sign there’s something wrong. In de shop where I bought the ink, they said I have to sign out the updates at my computer. Where can I find that?

    • Hello, this printer can be used without a computer and as such doesn’t have “updates” from your computer. You can turn off the notification your printer sends to your computer, but that won’t enable the printer to print. If the black ink light is on or flashing and you can print, just ignore it. it’s the printers way of telling you the cartridge is empty (even if it’s not). If the alarm light is flashing (along with the black ink light) and you can’t print, then there’s a good chance the cartridge may be faulty. Is the cartridge you purchased an original or a compatible/refill?

    Trying to print and copy and yellow light flashing twice. Can’t see what the problem is as paper has fed prior to this issue now.

  5. Printer [used with a MacBook Pro, usb & ipad wifi] is stuck with ‘on’ led and 4″x8″ Photo Paper led. No button commands it. Pulling off the power cord for short or long duration does nothing to restore. What gives? By the way writing to Canon support [Turkey] produces no response whatsoever despite loooong wait. And they were twice warned by Europe to get back to me before, but the e-mail address they gave me doesn’t get read or responded! What a shame.

    • Pressing the little button next to the 4×8 LED should make the paper size change. If it isn’t and with the all the other issues you have with the machine, I’m afraid it is beyond my knowledge. I wish I could help you more.

    On my Macbook it is saying machine is in standby and wont print but its not as it prints off my on my devices?

      Mine is doing exactly that too ! Only got it today and prints only from iPhone, iPad says paper jam ! not got a jam ! and macbook pro says in standby and check queue or offline and shows nowhere to be able to get itself an ip address or configure the WPA2 security / password details ! what a waste of cash…

    trying to load the software onto a samsung laptop , put disc in, open “printers”, the disc “whirrs” and the name of the printers appears but when I click next it gives error 0x00000105 the printer installation failed Operation could not be completed

    Our MG3550 is faulty, its impossible to change the ink… you cant get the color or the black out because i think its a mistake that happened when the printer was built.

    Have a brand new Pixma MG 3550. Printed the first couple of pictures fine. Then it had a paper jam. Had to pull the paper out. Now it only prints blurry images. I have changed the cartridges and used the help to clean the heads but it isn’t helping. The test print page is alligned perfectly. Any ideas?

    I cannot photo copy. Scanning and printing from documents works fine. The light is lit next to 4″ x 6″ Photo Paper and I think it needs to be lit against A4 Plain Paper, but I cannot see where I can change this setting.

      try the little recessed button to the right of the box on top of the printer left where it has the lights and A4 plain paper or 4×6 photo paper

    I have a MG3500. 2 months old. I have printed less than 100 pages. Now, every time the paper feeds in it becomes twisted on entry and causes a jam. I have tried absolutely everything possible to fix this. Please help

      Rob mine is doing this too after only 6 weeks. It has paper caught inside that is impossible to reach. Did you find a solution?

    HOw do I cancelled printing due to so many errors I now have a print cue of 86 and think it has now cause total confusion to the printer brain “…….helpppppp

      Go to Start and click . it should open up a list of programmes on the left and “places” in your computer on the right.
      Go to “devices and Printers”
      Click on this and it wioll open up a page listing all the devices and printers attached to your computer
      Go the printer Cannon whic should be highlighted in some way (a green tick on my computer
      Hover over that and RIGHT click
      form he drop down list select “see what is printing”
      Click on that
      Top left tab is naked Printer
      Click on that and a drop down list appears including “Cancel all documents”
      click on this and a pop up appears asking if you really want to cancel all documents
      click on yes

      they will all be deleted, but it may take some time if you have 86!

    Help my mg3550 will not print via AirPrint it starts to sound like its going to print feeds the paper through, then spits it out with nothing on it. Orange light flash twice but there is paper in it. I have tried resetting using stop/cancel button only had it a week & this is 3rd time using it!!!

    • Could it be that the first page of document you are printing is blank?
      Try putting more than one page on the input tray of the printer.
      You can aslo chec if Copy functionality is working, that will help you to see if problem is with printer heads or with communication.

      air print the wireless internet… this happened to me twice, i dont know how to fix it, i asked a young person do do that but mine hasn’t printed via wifi for some time. Seems to be a common occurrence. All I can suggest is rebooting- take power cable out of back and let it rest for a while. Cancel all printing via computer in case it is corrupted.

    Hi..I just bought a Canon MG2970 printer. Follow yr video instructions to set up. Everything is smooth till when press Print after review, it stated cannot communicate with the printer. Can u help me? Can reply thru my email? Thank u

    HI…I have a canon printer MG3550, at first it was working properly and later after many days it stop working and i deleted the the previous drive and again downloaded it but this time i can’t access to the printer. It keep on saying processing please wait. I don’t know what’s going on. BTW I am using Macbook air.

    Orange lights flashing 5 times. Have tried taking cartridges out and putting them back in but no change. How do I get to the print heads? Do they need cleaning?
